There has been one meeting of the Society so far this term,
and one more has been arranged.
On February 14th, 1925, Mr. Brooks gave a very interesting
paper en Louis Pasteur and his work. He commenced by
giving a short outline of the life of Louis Pasteur. He next)
explained Pasteur's germ theory, and the effects which this had
on the preservation of food. He then described the treatment
of infectious diseases by preventive inoculation, and gave an
account of its use in the treatment of anthrax and hydrophobia.
An account is also due of the paper which Mr. L. A. C.
Parkes gave on Wireless, on March 29th, 1924. Beginning by
explaining some elementary definitions, he proceeded to the
production of waves in the ether by means of the induction
coil. He then gave an account of spark transmitters and
receivers, and concluded with a few notes on the use of the
valve in amplification and rectification.
The Committee wish to thank Mr. Parkes and to express
their appreciation of his paper, which is the first paper which
has been given by a member of the School, at the same time
hoping that other members of the Society will follow his
example.
